Defending the rights of deaf children
Despite two UN conventions and lots of local laws, many deaf children are still denied their rights to education, health, family life and protection from abuse.
Despite the laws in India which guarantee equal rights to all children, providing services that are accessible is a low priority for many. Deaf children themselves often do not have a voice to campaign for change.
Together with deaf children and their families, Deaf Child Worldwide fights to make sure deaf children’s rights become reality. This includes working with national and international organisations and companies as well as local and national governments.
In particular we will aim to equip and empower families to defend the rights of deaf children and will support lobbying which demands governments develop policies and plans that take into account deaf children’s rights to education, health and other services as enshrined in the UN Convention for the Rights of People with Disabilities and local laws.
Rights for All
In India, we are working on a project called Rights for Deaf Children and their Families. This project will support families to advocate for deaf children's rights in West Bengal, Assam, Orissa and Madhya Pradesh.
