Gujarat

Our work in Gujarat focuses on improving the lives of deaf children by building the capacity of parents, teachers and balwadi (community pre-school) workers.

There are a variety of service provision models already functioning in Gujarat, from community based rehabilitation programmes to special schools. Over time, IDCS-India aims to work with a range of different organisations.

Currently, we are working with the Umang Education and Research Centre for the Hearing Impaired to develop a language acquisition toolkit and training course for parents, teachers, CBR workers and others.

We are also conducting fact-finding visits to other districts of Gujarat such as Vadodara and Bhavnagar to assess the needs of deaf children and their parents in these areas.
