Welcome to the photo gallery for the project implemented by the Loto Taumafai Society. The project employed deaf and hearing fieldworkers to develop a home-based support programme for deaf children and their families in five rural districts.

Teaching Sign Language through home visits means that siblings and other community members also learn to sign
Fieldworkers visit churches, schools and other community groups to make sure everyone is aware of how to include deaf children
Most parents had low expectations for their deaf children which changed when they got to know the deaf fieldworkers
The whole project team met regularly to evaluate progress and work out ways to improve their work
To make fieldworker training inclusive for the new deaf fieldworkers, care was taken to make sure information was accessible visually
All the fieldworkers needed training to equip them with skills to identify and working with deaf children and to build community awareness and facilitate parents' groups
Most deaf children are born to hearing parents who need support in developing the skills to communicate with their children.
Deaf people make the best teachers of Sign Language and provide role models for children and families
