Latin America
The Latin American region records the highest level of inequality of all regions in the world. In the future, Deaf Child Worldwide will focus its work on the Andean region where many deaf children do not have access to quality education and many families do not know how to support their deaf children.
Deaf Child Worldwide is just starting its work in the region and we hope over the coming years, we will develop new partnerships with local organisations accross the region in order to reach to more deaf children in Latin America.
Colombia
In 2007, we started supporting the Filadelfia School for Deaf Children in Bogotá to develop family support services which help break down communication barriers and provide families with balanced information about deafness. The project is taking a long-term approach by training a group of parents in counselling which will enable them to continue to support new parents in the future.
