The 20th International Congress on the Education of the Deaf (ICED)

In response to research undertaken by IDCS and the The Enabling Education Network, that showed a lack of opportunities for international agencies to share ideas and coordinate their work, a partnership between Viataal International, The Christoffel Blinden Mission eV , EENET and IDCS was formed.

The aim of this partnership was to promote greater collaboration and networking between organisations from and working in developing and transitional countries and ICED 2005, was considered a useful focal point for sharing information and experience.

For the first time in ICED's history, in 2005 there were a series of coordinated workshops (three altogether) which specifically focused on the issues and concerns of practitioners working in countries in transition and development.

In addition, a pre-congress meeting entitled Cooperation with partners in countries in transition and development was organised before the main congress, to maximise the opportunities for sharing information and to exchange and encourage critical thinking among practitioners and professionals.

A detailed account of the pre and main congres activities coordinated by CBM, EENET, IDCS and Viataal International are available in the report, prepared by IDCS consultant Susie Miles, entititled Promoting international information sharing: working together with partners from countries in transition and development.
