WHO training resources

The WHO Prevention of Deafness programme has recently launched a series of training resources aimed at managing ear diseases and reducing hearing problems in developing countries.

Four training manuals (basic level, intermediate level trainer’s manual, intermediate level student’s workbook, advanced level) equip primary level health workers and communities in developing countries with simple, effective methods to reduce the burden of ear and hearing disorders. You can download these from the WHO website as well as order printed or CD rom copies and give feedback.

The four resources are as follows:

Primary Ear and Hearing Care - Basic level (523 kb) [pdf]Clear information, diagrams and drawings enable village health workers, teachers and parents help their community prevent and recognize common ear diseases and hearing impairment.

Primary Ear and Hearing Care - Intermediate level trainer's manual (1035 kb) [pdf] Provides tools needed for interactive training of primary level health workers in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of common ear diseases and hearing impairmen

Primary Ear and Hearing Care - intermediate level - students' workbook (951 kb) [pdf] The same framework as the trainer's manual enables each student understand and apply the knowledge and skills required for primary ear and hearing care.

Primary Ear and Hearing Care - Advanced (669 kb) [pdf] Reinforces and extends previous learning so as to prevent, detect, diagnose, manage and rehabilitate ear and hearing disorders effectively at the primary level.
