Paper synopsis

Dr W Nah Dixon founded the first school for deaf children in Liberia in 1962. Unfortunately the school was destroyed 4 times during the civil war and now as Chief Executive of Feed My People Liberia, Dr Dixon is committed to ensuring the school returns to its high standards.

Feed My People funded Dr Dixon to undertake a study visit to deaf schools in Kenya and South Africa to draw upon good practice in developing work further in Liberia.

This paper gives an account of his experiences in Liberia and some of the history of deaf education in Africa. It also highlights learning from the study visits and conclusions for the development of deaf education in Liberia.
