Opening Doors to Independence
In our last update, we featured our support to vocational training projects in Zambia and Cameroon. The progress of these projects has been really impressive and has had a real impact on the lives of the young deaf people involved.
"Young deaf people travel from far and wide to attend the IDCS supported club" David Munyama, Project Manager, Zambia.
The club members have made huge progress with their literacy and numberacy classes, as well as enjoying the opportunity to learn new skills such as sewing, weaving and carpentry. This brings them closer and closer to their primary goal- to use their skills to generate income. We are delighted that orders for their products are now coming in, most recently for 300 woven mats. These young people now have hope that the skills they develop in the club will be the key to their independent future.
