Improving Education Against the Odds
Thanks to IDCS supporters, we have formed a new partnership with an organisation working to improve the quality of education for deaf children in Zimbabwe.
The project is organising fun and educational acitvities, which will improve teachers' skills as well as family communication in using practical and infromal learning techniques. Following the President of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe's "clean up" campaign, three of the children and eight of the deaf workers involved in the project have been made homeless. Libby Foster, Project Manager reports,
"Children are telling stories of angry policemen with guns and houses being knocked down. These images will stay with them for all their lives. It's made me realise how giving the kids good memories is also so important."
Our work, made possible by IDCS supporters, is vital as we make sure that deaf children continue to learn, even in the most challenging circumstances.
