Summary:
Through activities in workshops, counselling, home visits and documentation the aim is to strengthen the families of the deaf children.
Aim:
This project aims to support families of deaf children at the Filadelfia School fo the Deaf, giving them information on deafness, improving communication between the deaf student and their family, and suporting their social and emotional development.
Beneficiaries:
Deaf students and their families at the Filadelfia School for the Deaf aged 6 to 26 years.
Activities:
- Training 20 parents to become peer educators
- Workshops for parents and family members on communication, conflict resolution, leadership, family finances.
- Parent support groups
- Sign language classes for parents and family members
- Meetings for parents in family homes hosted by peer educators
- Home visits by project staff
- Referral to psychologists, financial advisors, education experts
- Annual family day
- Presentation of the project ot deaf schools and NGOs working with deaf children in other cities in Colomibia and support them to set up similar projects.
